These non metric units often confuse metric people. English mile, land mile, statute mile, admiralty mile, nautical mile, sea mile, geographical mile- all these are miles according to a dictionary I use and the same goes with gallon. As for a mile I somehow have figured out that it is roughly 1.6 km., but gallon remains a mystery. The mentioned above dictionary gives three definitions: imperial gallon, British gallon and American gallon. I guess British and imperial gallons are the same, but then again which of the remaining two do you mean speaking of miles per gallon?
